Forest Design Plan
The future look and design of the forest is something that is very important to us and we are working on a Forest Design Plan (FDP) covering the next 5-10 years and beyond .There are many aspects to the forest that need to be thought about such as the site ‘Master Plan’ which involves access roads, tree felling and restocking, recreational facilities and renewable energy etc. The FDP is quite complex and involves us working closely with Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) and the Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP). KCFC is fortunate enough to have Alana Hyslop on board to help with delivery of the FDP. She is currently a student at Inverness College and contacted KCFC to see if we were interested in offering her a training placement during her ‘Gap Year’. We are delighted to have her on board until summer 2012.
KCFC Trading Arm
We have now set up a trading arm of Kilfinan Community Forest Company, which is allowing us to start generating an income. We are currently selling seasoned wood fuel and in time we aim to supply milled timber, organic compost and garden furniture etc. We also plan to start offering and running courses on a variety of subjects from organic gardening to woodland management. We plan to set up a small retail outlet on the site to manage and distribute the goods and this will create some future job opportunities. |
