Get Involved

It’s your forest - so how can you get involved?

It’s all very exciting up in the forest - 2011/12 has seen startling developments and the site looks very different from a year ago.

With proper access now in place, a project office and workshops, the place virtually hums with activity. The enormous Polytunnel now houses 26 raised beds many filled and now planted with all sorts of delicious winter greens after a bumper Summer and Autumn crop that saw all sorts of amazing salads, squashes, beets, peas, radishes and tomatoes heading home with their tired but happy growers - there was a lot of good eating in allotmenteer’s households in 2011.

The Growing Green Project was funded by the Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) until March 2012. A further bid for 3 years funding to develop and capitalise on the enormous amount of work achieved in the past 2 years was submitted to the CCF; unfortunately this was unsuccessful so the Growing Green Project will finish at the end of March. However, with a Development Officer in place and with the support of the Board and local community, the Community Forest will continue to thrive and grow.

So, how can YOU can get involved with your Community Forest? There are a number of ways:

  • Become a member of the Kyles Allotment Group and sign up for an allotment - a great way to get fresh air, excercise and grow your own food!
  • Become a volunteer - help is always needed with site development, on market days and with fundraising
  • Become a member - its FREE and you will receive regular email updates and a monthly newsletter about all our activities
  • Come along to one of our events to find out more and meet some of the people involved in the project. Look out for posters on community notice boards and in the post offices or check our news page online
If you want to find out more or are interested in joining Kilfinan Community Forest or the Kyles Allotment Group please contact the office on 01700 811159 or email info@kilfinancommunityforest.com
